Code of Conduct & Etiquette

CymaSpace is committed to fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, and hearing participants.

The 11 Community Agreements

Every person entering CymaSpace and Woodstock Cafe is expected to honor these core agreements:

  1. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Assume ignorance and not malice when mistakes happen.
  2. Please be respectful to the opinions of others and engage with an open, constructive mind.
  3. Help maintain an objective, non-judgmental atmosphere where all communication styles are honored.
  4. Give yourself and others credit for the work that is done. Acknowledge contributions and collaborative effort.
  5. Help keep a clean and sanitary workspace, leaving equipment and shared tables neat for the next person.
  6. Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. We learn, invent, and grow together as a community.
  7. Be respectful of others' personal space and possessions. Ask permission before touching equipment or belongings.
  8. Do not enter private offices or work studios without permission.
  9. Respect other people's choice of name, personal pronouns, and gender identity. When in doubt, politely ask.
  10. Work to clarify misunderstandings promptly and apologize sincerely for harm done.
  11. Enjoy yourself at CymaSpace! Have fun. Share your talent, skills, and wisdom so that all may benefit.

Resolving Conflicts

If someone's conduct falls short of these agreements, speak to them directly one-on-one whenever safe to do so. If the conduct does not improve or causes discomfort, please bring the issue to the Board of Directors or staff member on duty for further action.

All decisions regarding ongoing participation are made democratically with careful consideration. If there is no improvement in conduct, individuals may be asked to leave the premises temporarily or permanently to safeguard the well-being of the community.
