CymaSpace is proud to announce an exciting partnership with the Portland Jazz Composers' Ensemble (PJCE), a 12-piece jazz chamber orchestra dedicated to commissioning and performing original works in the Pacific Northwest.
In collaboration with Audiolux Devices, this partnership integrates sound-reactive cymatics and custom LED hardware directly into live jazz orchestrations. Brass blasts, subtle upright bass plucks, and drum improvisations will be translated into real-time color palettes and dynamic light patterns on stage.
Why Visual Music Matters
"For Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members, jazz can sometimes feel distant because of its complexity and nuance," explains Myles de Bastion. "By visualizing frequency, rhythm, and solo passages through Audiolux technology, Deaf audiences experience the spontaneous interplay of the orchestra in vivid clarity."
The project will also include Open Captioning for spoken introductions, tactile seating prototypes for tactile low-end resonance, and Deaf ASL interpreters rendering lyric and harmonic storytelling.
